INSURANCE

Insurance companies pay to replace your storm damaged roof because they acknowledge that the integrity of the shingle was damaged enough to assume there will likely be problems in the future. Even if you have no current leaks or issues. In this sense, they are proactive, as to save them from a larger claim in the future when/if the roof failed.
Homeowners have 3 years from the date of the storm to file a claim for any/all damages relating to storms.
This question is asked very frequently. LEGALLY you are required to pay your deductible. This is typically the only amount you have to come out of pocket during the entire process.

In many situations you don’t have to! Even if your insurance company denies your claim, you have 1 year from the date you filed to request a second opinion. This process can be very subjective, so homeowners are entitled to a second opinion if they feel their property did not receive the time and attention it deserved for an unbiased inspection.

Depreciation is either recoverable (RCV) or unrecoverable. This is the amount of money that is withheld by your insurance company at the beginning. The amount that is withheld is determined by the age of your roof. (Ex: if your roof is a 30 year roof and is 15 years old, they typically withhold 50% of the approved amount). It is meant to encourage the homeowner to get the work done in a timely manner. If you have recoverable depreciation, once the work is complete you will receive this amount as your final payment.
If you had a different insurance provider when the last storm hit then you do right now, then you would pursue a claim against the insurance provider you had when the storm happened. Ex: You had Geico insurance when it hailed on May 21, 2019. You switched to Allstate on March 2, 2020. If that hail storm was the last to hit your home then you would pursue a claim against Geico, as they were the ones who insured the property at the time of the storm.
This is a good question: If you plan on mounting your roof with the inspectors and know insurance jargon as well as the full terms of your homeowners policy and what your entitled, you may not need help! However for most people, it’s simply a good idea to hire someone who knows what your insurance company is looking for as well as what you’re entitled. In many cases, your insurance company is not the one inspecting your property. They hire a 3rd party inspector to perform their inspections, take pictures and give their opinions! We are your advocate on your roof making sure nothing goes unaccounted for and that all areas are properly photographed. Your insurance company doesn’t always want to pay 10k-15k for your new roof and needs to hear why this justified. This is the value we bring.
It depends. In short, from inspection to installation and cleanup typically take 3-5 weeks. Insurance providers and weather are the 2 big factors of time.
All checks are sent to the Homeowner, unless they authorize the check be addressed and sent directly to The Roof Medic.

ROOF REPAIR

After your roof is about 10 years old, it’s a good idea to get your roof inspected once a year.
Typically, you can repair your roof if it has a small isolated issue, is less than 10 years old, and was installed properly. But if your roof has a large area of damage, your roof is over 10 years old, or there are structural concerns, then you should likely opt for a full replacement.
Many times inspecting for a leak entails quite a bit of labor, time and investigation. Our service fee helps compensate our hard workers in investigating the leaking issues your roof is having. This price does include an estimate for your repairs, but does not go toward repair costs.

ROOF REPLACEMENT

The main difference is that 3-tab roofs are 1 layer thick and lay completely flat. Architectural shingles have an additional layer of asphalt applied to the body of the shingle. This extra thickness provides not only additional impact resistance but also helps resist against wind damage. The additional layers also give the shingle more depth which help make the shingle pop with shadow lines.
We try to accommodate all things required to make this process painless for the homeowner. With that being said, you do have a few responsibilities, such as:
  1. Ensuring any loose objects on mantles or in china cabinets are secure.
  2. Any paintings, portraits, china or mirrors that are on the wall and not secure should be taken down.
  3. If you plan on leaving your house, park your car on the street the night before.
Most asphalt shingle roof replacements only take 1-2 days! The timeframe may be a bit longer depending on weather considerations and the material you choose.
